Book Review - Leadership And The One Minute Manager - Internet Marketer Alert!

Most entrepreneurs are familiar with One Minute Manager by Ken Blanchard and Spencer Johnson. That amazing read covers the subject of how anyone can be a power manager (of others or self) by following 3 simple steps.

Blanchard teamed with Patricia and Drea Zigarmi for a longer production entitled Leadership And The One Minute Manager. This is a 4-hour read and has, IMHO, even more valuable takeaways for would be leaders, in particular internet marketers.

Leadership begins by addressing real life experiences of an entrepreneur seeking to plug in the lessons of One Minute Manager (OMM) to his business world. If I could, I would fold down the corner of every page in this part as an alert for an aspiring online entrepreneur.

Leadership clarifies, with solid examples, the 4 basic leadership styles: directing, coaching, supporting and delegating.

Directing addresses individuals who have enthusiasm and commitment in spades but lack competency. Their need? Direction and feedback. In application to internet marketers, this would point to connecting in a mentor-mentee relationship aimed at getting the social media/internet marketing skills to succeed.

Coaching focuses on those who have some competency but lack commitment. They too need direction and feedback to get on track. This area is less applicable to internet marketers. Most get on board for highly personal reasons, not the least of which is powerful financial motivation. They may lack in competency, but commitment? No way. No how.

Supporting targets those who have a competent skill set but lack confidence or motivation. They may need less direction as they are empowered by their background; they need emotional bolstering and motivation. This is where a lifestyle coach could help. Not a likely style for an social media marketer.

Delegating encompasses individuals who have both competency and commitment. They have the initiative to self-direct a program with little support.

Because so many internet marketers start out with little money and a lot of drive, Leadership is an excellent read.

It makes an internet marketer truly appreciate the fundamental concept that his/her inventory of personal resources is worth more than any amount of money. With that powerful recognition in place from the inception of establishing a business, the newby online promoter is well positioned to drive a new business to success.

Leadership concludes by validating the Buddhist expression: "To know and not to use is not yet to know." The theory is in play for home business owners and internet marketers daily when functioning in the high tech world that is progressing, evolving and constantly morphing itself.

Leadership and The One Minute Manager may not have been directed specifically to the entrepreneur who works from home. But the valuable lessons it provides for this business sector resound clearly.

Internet marketers should be on alert and take all that they can from this amazing volume.
